Jiaogulan Tea (Gynostemma pentaphyllum)

Starting at:

What is Jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum)? - Jiaogulan (also known as Gynostemma pentaphyllum) is an herb originating in China. This small vine grows naturally in Chinese forests but is now grown on small farms throughout Asia. Jiaogulan has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds of years. Traditional Chinese doctors consider it a Chi tonic. Chi is the Chinese word for internal energy and a Chi Tonic is any herb or combination of herbs that increases and aids the flow of Chi. Jiaogulan is also considered by herbalists as an adaptogen. Adaptogens are herbs that help the body self-regulate. In short, Gynostemma puts your body back in balance.

What are the health benefits of Gynostemma Tea? - Gynostemma pentaphyllum first came to the attention of modern science as a result of a nationwide census in China taken in 1970. The census data revealed two small regions of China with an unusually large number of people aged over 100 years. A research team was dispatched to look for the cause. After extensive research the scientists concluded that the reason was that jiaogulan grew naturally in both these regions and was regularly consumed by locals as a less expensive alternative to tea.

This surprising finding prompted more focused research on the health benefits of Gynostemma tea. After over forty years of research the scientists and doctors on the project identified three major health benefits from drinking jiaogulan.

1)Gynostemma is an adaptogenic herb. Adaptogens are herbs that help the body self-regulate. This is normally managed by the human neuro-endocrine system. When the NE system gets out of balance many problems can happen including, diabetes, high blood pressure, weight gain or loss, insomnia, irritability, problems with thinking and memory and a host of hormone problems. Gynostemma helps return the body to balance.

2)Gynostemma improves blood flow and reduces blood pressure. Studies show that Gynostemma pentaphyllum is a natural vasodilator. Vasodilators are often recommended for people trying to decrease their blood pressure since they expand the blood vessels and improve blood flow. Additionally, even for people without blood pressure issues, the increased blood flow to the brain and other vital organs can increase energy levels and boost athletic performance.

3) Gynostemma supports your immune system. Most people do not realize that the human body produces its own antioxidant called Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD). In addition to being a key to the adaptogen benefits of jiaogulan, because our own body produces SOD, increasing SOD is far superior to consuming antioxidant foods in boosting our immune response and countering the effects of aging. Studies suggest that regular consumption of Gynostemma may aid the production of SOD.

Why our Jiaogulan is the best? - We grow our jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum) on small farms in the highlands of Thailand. We grow it there because there is very little industrialization in this region. The air, water and soil are some of the best in the world and together they produce a very high quality Gynostemma tea. Because we work directly with the farmers we can insist on organic, pesticide-free growing methods. We pan dry immediately and then follow with a forced air drying method that allows us to preserve the integrity of the tea. Our tea is naturally sweet and aromatic. We were awarded the prize for best tasting tea in Thailand. Keep in mind, that this was best tea overall, in a head to head competition with some of the finest gourmet teas.

We urge you to give our jiaogulan a try. Its fully organic and caffeine free! Available in four convenient sizes from 30 grams (about 30 cups of tea) up to 1 kilogram (good for about 1000 cups of tea) Free USA Delivery!

I have been using Jiaogulan capsules for 4 years and I found your site and had to try the tea. Its very soothing for an evening tea. One very positive thing about the herb is that it has kept me from catching almost every cold that i come in contact with for 4 years now. Once in a while I get sick but I have been amazed how well this has kept me. My father is an herbalist and at 84 he does not take any drugs and is in great health and shape.

I'm so glad I found the Jiaogulan tea just as I was trying to wean myself off of black tea and caffeine. I'm trying to eliminate so many acid forming foods and drinks. I find that on the third use of the leaves it helps to add just a pinch of fresh to give it a little oomph.

At first I thought it tasted like spinach--the kind in the can-- but after I add Splenda to it -- it tasted really good and am enjoying it very much.

not only Jiagoulan has helped me with blood pressure, it is also the most delicious beverage I have been seriously addicted to all sorts of green tea of high quality, organic from the top mountain of Taiwan, you name it.... delicious and expensive ... and loaded with caffeine that is all I could drink , even late in the afternoon, which creates problems of its own with sleep patterns. Now, except for my morning cup, I drink Jiagoulan for the sweet and complex taste , even second wash is perfect and I avoid the caffeine, what a treasure this is.

I really like the tea. I bought some for my sister and wanted some also. She has high blood pressure and I've been concerned for her. She does not like taking the meds, and prefers natural remedies. She is a vegetarian and follows the Hindu faith, so your tea is perfect for her. Plus she loves it, she even almost craves it now! So, I guess her body really needed it. Thank You!!!!

Ralph, Your tea is very enjoyable. As you create the connection you do in the countries you mentioned; I hope you keep the price of these quality teas low enough for all to enjoy. If so, I think you will have a winner on your hands.

I have had many bowel issues for 2 years with 2 major surgeries. Since my last surgery I have not been able to eat I have been making the mulberry and jiagoulan tea and alternating them mixed with organic mullberry juice and tart cherry. I must have them everyday or I feel the effects of having little energy. I am thankful to find your tea and your company.

I'm so glad I purchased my Jiaogulan tea from your company this time; it does not tast like "bitter dirt," which has been my experience with others. Yours tastes crisp and slightly sweet, with pungent overtones. I do have to say, though, that I use about one teaspoon per cup and steep it for about four minutes. I think that half that amount and time (as is indicated on your label) isn't enough to bring out the full flavor and the therapeutic qualities of the tea. Just a thought.

My cholestrol was ~235 & tested 24 months later after starting stemma tea = 182, w/liver and all other indices normal. My WW2 father w/5 bypass heart surgery and still clogging arteries -neck and legs- since stimma tea now tests 98%+ good blood flow. My Oriental friends turned me on to this tea. Always drink it hot, never iced. I'm a believer...

This is my first time trying Jiaogulan tea and though I have no others to compare you to, I HAVE been drinking organic, loose leaf tea for 3 years now and know fresh (high quality) tea when I taste it. I love your tea and I appreciate you offering free shipping and upgrading my order when you were out of the small bag. I will definitely buy from you again. Thank you kindly. Namaste!

t is selling very well. Some anecdotal evidence of it's immune boosting power is that I use to get sick maybe once a month (I have a three year old who puts junk in her mouth all the time and hangs out with 30 other kids, my family all sleeps in the same bed) since taking your tea everyday to every other day I haven't been sick in 10 months, nor has my wife or daughter. I am so happy with the product. My costumers report similar evidence. A friend of mine is 83 with prostate cancer and he says the tea gave him the best urination he has had in years. That is a compliment by the way, not just a random weird old guy statement.

This is a fine Jiaogulan tea. I regularly get 3 or more infusions from a single teaspoonfull! I have tried Jiaogulan tea bags in the past, but this loose leaf takes the experience to a new level. It is smooth, full bodied with a characteristic slight sweetness. Kind thanks to Immortalitea for their prompt delivery and status emails regarding my order.
