Jiaogulan Tea (Gynostemma pentaphyllum)

Starting at: $11.95

What is Jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum)? - Jiaogulan (also known as Gynostemma pentaphyllum) is an herb originating in China. This small vine grows naturally in Chinese forests but is now grown on small farms throughout Asia. Jiaogulan has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds of years. Traditional Chinese doctors consider it a Chi tonic. Chi is the Chinese word for internal energy and a Chi Tonic is any herb or combination of herbs that increases and aids the flow of Chi. Jiaogulan is also considered by herbalists as an adaptogen. Adaptogens are herbs that help the body self-regulate. In short, Gynostemma puts your body back in balance.

What are the health benefits of Gynostemma Tea? - Gynostemma pentaphyllum first came to the attention of modern science as a result of a nationwide census in China taken in 1970. The census data revealed two small regions of China with an unusually large number of people aged over 100 years. A research team was dispatched to look for the cause. After extensive research the scientists concluded that the reason was that jiaogulan grew naturally in both these regions and was regularly consumed by locals as a less expensive alternative to tea.

This surprising finding prompted more focused research on the health benefits of Gynostemma tea. After over forty years of research the scientists and doctors on the project identified three major health benefits from drinking jiaogulan.

1)Gynostemma is an adaptogenic herb. Adaptogens are herbs that help the body self-regulate. This is normally managed by the human neuro-endocrine system. When the NE system gets out of balance many problems can happen including, diabetes, high blood pressure, weight gain or loss, insomnia, irritability, problems with thinking and memory and a host of hormone problems. Gynostemma helps return the body to balance.

2)Gynostemma improves blood flow and reduces blood pressure. Studies show that Gynostemma pentaphyllum is a natural vasodilator. Vasodilators are often recommended for people trying to decrease their blood pressure since they expand the blood vessels and improve blood flow. Additionally, even for people without blood pressure issues, the increased blood flow to the brain and other vital organs can increase energy levels and boost athletic performance.

3) Gynostemma supports your immune system. Most people do not realize that the human body produces its own antioxidant called Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD). In addition to being a key to the adaptogen benefits of jiaogulan, because our own body produces SOD, increasing SOD is far superior to consuming antioxidant foods in boosting our immune response and countering the effects of aging. Studies suggest that regular consumption of Gynostemma may aid the production of SOD.

Why our Jiaogulan is the best? - We grow our jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum) on small farms in the highlands of Thailand. We grow it there because there is very little industrialization in this region. The air, water and soil are some of the best in the world and together they produce a very high quality Gynostemma tea. Because we work directly with the farmers we can insist on organic, pesticide-free growing methods. We pan dry immediately and then follow with a forced air drying method that allows us to preserve the integrity of the tea. Our tea is naturally sweet and aromatic. We were awarded the prize for best tasting tea in Thailand. Keep in mind, that this was “best tea overall”, in a head to head competition with some of the finest gourmet teas.

I truly believe in this tea. I had a slight case of high blood pressure and a slight case of high cholesterol. I've been taking this tea now for almost a year and the results are incredible. All levels are now normal. I think I feel better now than I have in the last 10 years. I will be turning 44 in a few months. Thanks again. _ Before trying this tea I was drinking hibiscus tea,not as readily available anymore. Although I truly believe this tea to be more affective. My wife is hooked on it as well. She has been taking the tea for 5 months now and has lost a total of 9lbs and had to buy herself new pants.

We (my husband and I) absolutely love this tea. We use it for tea and I also grind it up and blend it with other herbs, ashwaganda, astragalus, sumu root and licorice for an asthma remedy. Really helps my husband to reduce his inhaler dependancy. Thank you!

Not specifically to this brand, but Jiaogulan tea has been used for centuries by the Chinese.. so as with any Chinese medicinal herbs, it is not a quick fix. Chinese tradional herbs are based on prevention and healing and not instant cures. If people want instant cures, then please pop an aspirin. Drinking 32 cups as someone here mentioned over 3 days will not change anything. Taking 6 cups over 30 days and not drinking anything else other than this tea and water, then you will see a difference.

This Jiaogulan is top quality, and you will notice it the first time you drink some. Filled with many saponins that help your body adapt to different situations, return to homeostasis, and counteract the effects of Nuclear Factor Kappa-B (the substance at the root of all inflammation in all vertebrates and involved in most cell death in animals). You can reuse the leaves up to 3 times, so it is well worth the cost. I will be buying again soon! P.s. It tastes really good too. ;)

I really enjoy this naturally sweet tea(not too sweet tho). I notice more of a general calmness when I drink this tea regularly. I also like the packaging. You can drink this tea by itself or you can add other herbs to it...such as spearmint from your garden. ...which is what I like to do sometimes

Technically a tisane or herbal infusion since it doesn't contain any camellia sinensis. I haven't noticed any health benefits, but I generally drink tea for pleasure. I expected this to be more earthy, but it was bright and had a seaweed aroma. I got to steep the same leaves three times, probably could have gotten four.

The Jiaogulan tea arrived and was such a beautiful presentation- a gift in itself with a beautiful gold packaging- that also makes it a beautiful gift for a person as it lifts the spirit when you see it. But the tea!!!? - I opened the package and first thing I did was smelled it. I honestly do not recall ever smelling such a fresh smell- it truly smelled like something I would have had just dried myself, so potent and fresh- it was truly a lovely scent. The tea itself was light and had a nice clean crisp finish with a nice mild taste. It was wonderful and comforting. I have always used Jiaogulan simply as a tincture- but the Jiaogulan Tea was so soothing. It will now become part of my daily arsenal for health- and enjoyment! I'm enclosing a photo I took of it!

I have been enjoying the Jiaogulan from Immortalitea now for about two years. In a lot of ways this tea has helped me to change certain aspects of my life. From the almost magical ability this tea has to increase my stamina and strength during work outs and the dramatic shifts I can feel in my body when under work related stress, this tasty and organic tea has become a part of my daily routine. I can literally feel the increased strength of my heart beat after enjoying a cup every morning. It's only a matter of time before a larger portion of North America and the world at large finds out about the amazing health benefits of this tea. The Immortalitea company's customer service has been truly outstanding. The owner has always promptly responded to any questions I have regarding the products that they offer and the single time where an issue arose over a shipment was taken care of immediately. Really a premium product line and service to match.

I could already tell that this was a very high quality tea when I first opened the bag and was met by a very rich, earthy scent, a full bodied aroma that was so good. The unsteeped leaves have a fantastic color to them - very intense and vibrant, and the tea itself takes on a deep, jungle green after its been brewed. What I was even more pleasantly surprised to find out after I had already had a delicious cup was that this tea is sustainably sourced from farms in Thailand, with no middlemen involved and exemplary quality control! I mixed the used tea leaves into a seaweed salad I had with lunch, and it added an extra delicious kick to my already yummy meal. I'm so glad to have found such a great source for Jiaogulan!

Recently I purchased Immortalitea's Thai High Mountain Oolong Tea and Jiaogulan Herbal Tea, and am very happy with both. The Jiaogulan is truly outstanding. Much sweeter and more flavorful than the last variety I tasted, it actually tastes like an Oolong rather than an herbal tea. This makes drinking it a pleasure, rather than something one does for one's health. It has a pronounced calming and normalizing effect on the body that can only be good for one's health, which is confirmed by numerous studies of this highly beneficial herb. The final point of this review is that I am drinking the Thai Oolong and the Jiaogulan every day, without getting tired of either. That's saying a lot.

One very positive thing about the herb is that it has kept me from catching almost every cold that i come in contact with for 4 years now. Once in a while I get sick but I have been amazed how well this has kept me. My father is an herbalist and at 84 he does not take any drugs and is in great health and shape.

not only Jiagoulan has helped me with blood pressure, it is also the most delicious beverage I have been seriously addicted to all sorts of green tea of high quality, organic from the top mountain of Taiwan, you name it.... delicious and expensive ... and loaded with caffeine that is all I could drink , even late in the afternoon, which creates problems of its own with sleep patterns. Now, except for my morning cup, I drink Jiagoulan for the sweet and complex taste , even second wash is perfect and I avoid the caffeine, what a treasure this is.

I'm so glad I purchased my Jiaogulan tea from your company this time; it does not tast like "bitter dirt," which has been my experience with others. Yours tastes crisp and slightly sweet, with pungent overtones. I do have to say, though, that I use about one teaspoon per cup and steep it for about four minutes. I think that half that amount and time (as is indicated on your label) isn't enough to bring out the full flavor and the therapeutic qualities of the tea. Just a thought.

t is selling very well. Some anecdotal evidence of it's immune boosting power is that I use to get sick maybe once a month (I have a three year old who puts junk in her mouth all the time and hangs out with 30 other kids, my family all sleeps in the same bed) since taking your tea everyday to every other day I haven't been sick in 10 months, nor has my wife or daughter. I am so happy with the product. My costumers report similar evidence. A friend of mine is 83 with prostate cancer and he says the tea gave him the best urination he has had in years. That is a compliment by the way, not just a random weird old guy statement.
