Quality and Freshness
We pick our gourmet tea when the
growth is still young and tender. We harvest monthly.
Since Jiaogulan is a small vine or ground cover we're able to grow it in
green houses using sustainable agriculture. We immediately
pan dry the leaves to stop the oxidation process. We hand
roll the leaves in clusters to help preserve the whole leaves during final
drying. The result is whole leaves that open beautifully in your cup, unprecedented freshness
and taste that has tea connoisseurs talking.
Our Jiaogulan was awarded the prize for best tasting tea by
the Thai Ministry of Agriculture. It has a slightly sweet
flavor with spice in the overtones. We grow ours organically and pesticide free in the highlands of Thailand
and ship fresh to your door.
Jiaogulan: The Immortality Herb
In
the 1970's the Chinese government sponsored a study focused on the large number
of people living to over 100 years old in certain provinces in Southern China.
They discovered the centenarians had one thing in common. They all drank a tea
brewed from a local herb called Jiaogulan. The locals called the modest mountain
"the immortality
herb. "
There is now three decades of research on Jiaogulan (scientifically known as
Gynostemma pentaphyllum) and its effects on health. Author Michael Blumert and
Dr. Jialiu Liu even wrote a book about Jiaogulan called, "Jiaogulan: China's
Immortality Herb."
