All of our pots are made by hand. Most include beautiful artwork on the sides of the pot made either through hand inscription (with created a inset image) or the painstaking art of stick clay application. (which creates a raised image).

Tea in China is usually served in tiny thimble shaped cups. Consequently the tea pots made in Yixing are small by western standards typically 13 oz. to 14 oz.. Fortuitously this works out perfectly for either one large cup of tea or two smaller cups.

It's the clay that makes it special

As the practice of drinking tea spread from Chinese monasteries to the tables  of refined households throughout China, interest grew in brewing the perfect cup of tea. Some tea-masters became influential advisors to emperors and other royalty. Well to do Chinese competed with each other to serve the most refined cup of tea.

In time, craftspeople and connoisseurs agreed the perfect tea ware was crafted from  the unique clays of Yixing province. These clays are unusually dense, have unique thermal properties and come in a variety of natural colors. Family artisans located their potteries in Yixing to be close to the source of this fine clay.
