It's the clay that makes it special
As the practice of drinking tea spread from Chinese monasteries
to the tables of refined households throughout China, interest grew in
brewing the perfect cup of tea. Some tea-masters became influential advisors to
emperors and other royalty. Affluent Chinese competed with each other to serve
the most refined cup of tea.
In time, craftspeople and connoisseurs agreed the perfect tea
ware was crafted from the unique clays of Yixing province. These clays are
unusually dense, have unique thermal properties and come in a variety of natural
colors. Family artisans located their potteries in Yixing to be close to the
source of this fine clay. Thus began the fine tradition of Yixing tea ware.
